Nodal Institutions

Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) had launched NCAP as a long term, time-bound, national-level strategy to tackle the air pollution problem across India in a comprehensive manner, with a target of 20-30 percent reduction in Particulate Matter concentrations by 2024, keeping 2017 as base year for comparison of concentration. Focused efforts are being made at this stage to attain tangible progress in air quality improvement.

Roles and Responsibilities of Nodal Institutions

  1. Nodal Institute, like IIT-B, IIT-D, IIT-M, IIT-KGP, IIT-BHU, IIT-G, IISc-Blr, PGI-Chandigarh, IISER (s), NITs and IIT (K) act as national coordinating institute.

  2. Two or three independent experts (in consultation with National Coordinator) along with nominated officers are from CPCB, SPCBs(two) and MoEF&CC

  3. Regional Sub-Networks can be formed by Individual Nodal Institutes (INI) to have co-ordination among regional IoRs within a geographical limitation.
